Still, the experiences and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">contributions of African Nova Scotian seafarers and their coastal communities have remained\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">absent from virtually all comprehensive bodies of research regarding maritime industry. Recognizing\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">this inequity, the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre, the Black Cultural Centre for Nova Scotia, and the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic are collaborating on the development of a province-wide\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">travelling exhibition aimed at elevating the stories of African Nova Scotians and their connections to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">the sea. By working in direct\u00a0 partnership with Black organizations and communities, and by\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">addressing critical research gaps, we hope to bring greater equity to the history of an industry\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">intrinsically connected to this province\u2019s cultural identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The program will cover topics within a broad timespan, ranging from the earliest days of Black\u00a0<span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">seafaring in Nova Scotia until the present day and include site-specific content related directly to the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">host organization\u2019s immediate surroundings. To be done effectively and appropriately we will\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">consider the nuances of intersectionality, and will discuss the experiences of a multiplicity of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">individuals. We intend to highlight the stories of people who built vessels, owned them, and worked\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">aboard them, but also showcase the contributions of those who worked within processing plants,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">fish-box mills, and other associated industries. We will explore the social implications of marine\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">trades, and the rituals, routines, and general rhythms of life for the families and other households\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: initial; font-size: 1.1em;\">who relied on the sea for their livelihood and wellbeing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We are looking for a qualified individual to assist in historical research and content development.
